Just back from a holiday in Italy around Lake Como. All very nice, thanks, except the hire car, a Focus estate (latest model, 10,000km). Am I missing something here? The muttering rotters of this and every other magazine seem to be in raptures over what both drivers agreed was an awful car. No steering feel. Roll-steer with 4 adult people on board, requiring constant correction. Brakes so over-servoed they activated all 4 inertia reel belts unless you were extraordinarily careful. Loads of road noise and a raucous diesel engine. Ghastly interior.
Yes, we can drive, and would count ourselves enthusiasts; my friend drives a Caterham. My day-to-day transport is a last-generation Mondeo, which I simply adore; brilliant steering, damping and handling, it deserves all the praise lavished on it.
Duff individual car? Different spec in Italy? Journos a bit over excited in a dull segment? Or pearls before unappreciative swine?
Anyone else underwhelmed, or if you love your Focus, please report.
