Mazda bosses will be embarrassed after sketches of the facelifted MX-5 leaked onto the internet.

The images have reportedly come from a patent application made with the European Union, and show that Mazda is planning a series of visual tweaks for the MX-5’s mid-life facelift, which is believed to be slated for 2010.

I see the horrendous wheel arches still haven't been sorted.  They look like an after thought and gives the impression the body and chassis were designed by two different teams not in contact with one another.  And when they brought the two together, the body was too narrow and they had to graft on the awful circular wheel arch extentions.  I do prefer the previous generation MX5.

I like those arches, they give the car some muscles and a much less bland appearance.

I also like the NC's design (I should, I own one...). The revamp looks minor as expected.

The front of the NB looks like a convertible Hyundai Lantra.

It doesn't give the car muscles as it isn't the body panels that are shaped, it actually looks like a large circular panel was added as an after thought.  A bit too Halfords for me.

The wheel arches look good with the lowered suspension as originally designed. The suspension had to be raised due to EU pedestrian protection laws. The new face is far too generic Mazda.
