  • London show: Lotus Evora

    Jul 22, 2008 2:05 PM

Lotus has just launched its Cayman rival here at the London motor show, ending months of speculation about the new car’s name, and satisfying one of the larger, more expectant crowds this morning.
The Evora is the model that Lotus believes will propel it to the big time. The British sports car maker claims that the Evora will be a credible and desirable rival for the Cayman. That's a big claim, as ...Read the full article

    It's beautiful!

Well done Lotus, to launch such an inspirational car in these doom and gloom; high fuel costs; non driving Prime Minister times.....it'll be tough, but I think that long term that this Lotus will fill TVR's void ( without the high running costs )

I can't wait to drive and perhaps buy one!!!

p.s. sort out the shoddy dealers though

The more I look at the images, the more I like it. That interior looks the billy balls as well; simple, uncluttered, stylish. I love that Koenigsegg roofline and the Enzo-esque three-quarter light is much better integrated than on the Enzo itself. Nice, and un-fussy from the front on as well. Black, or a dark claret / oxblood colour would really suit the Evora. If reliability and build quality are improved, I can't think of one reason why I would choose a Cayman over this as the handling will be - as it's a Lotus - sublime. Great work from the crew at Hethel!
There is no such thing as bravery. Only degrees of fear.

Just had a quick watch of the video by Lotus Manufacturing Director Luke Bennett on the BBC news site, and can't help but noticing that Lotus bringing back the Espirit! Hurrah!

Listen carefully at about 1.15 mins... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7520679.stm

PS: Love the Evora, Lotus deserve to do well.

Lovely car, but 1400kg? That's very disappointing from the pioneers of 'performance through light weight'.

With the Cayman S weighing 1340kg and shortly going up to 310bhp, Lotus are going to have to do better than that.

The weight issue might be against Lotus's ethos, but doesn't necessarily mean all that much as far as the actual car is concerend. Lighter isn't always better.

Looks like a kit car!, but saying that from certain angles a cayman's hardly a looker!!!

I like the car, but some of the individual design cues don't sit very well.

For example, the rear haunches - why do they have to be so separated from the car, and so squared-off? I think incorporating them with a slight slope down from the window would have been classier, though that might have trodden on Esprit styling cues.

Also, where the rear window, roof, door glass meet - that crosspoint (for want of a better description) is going to date badly - it's not a good design solution.

So you might figure I'd not buy one? Well, I drove a Cayman (not the S, with the LSD, can't have everything, eh?) at 150 around the Bedford Autodrome bowl and was highly impressed with the way the car behaves at speed, but it's very clinical, not much personality. I'm sure the Lotus has personality dripping out of its bonnet, which is why I'd probably plump for the Exige - oh, I meant Evora. ;)

I think the Artega might be a big threat if the pricing and marketing are done right.

Porsche had better be worried !

It looks great in the photos and I'm glad to see that a lot of people who saw it for real like it too. Can't wait to see one 'in the GRP'.

I still think 'Evora' sound like a brand of sanitary towel though.

In this world gone mad, we won't spank the monkey, the monkey will spank us!
