  • Your next car

    Jul 20, 2008 9:52 PM

I am always trawling Autotrader and sites like this one wondering what my next car might be. At the moment, I am yearning for a Mercedes E class convertible (W124).

What do you think your next car will be and when are you thinking of changing ?

For once, I am feeling pretty content with my choice of cars.  This is actually unheard of for me, because after 18 months of ownership I normally start getting itchy feet!

Having said that, I do feel the need to add to my collection!  There are couple of itches..

    1.  A Peugeot 106 or 306 normally aspirated diesel.  I can run these on vegatable oil and save myself tonnes in thex process, whilst still enjoying the drive!

    2.  A wide bodied Lotus 7 replica type car.  Had a Westfield at one stage and found it too small.  A Dax or the like with a decent sized body is currently floating my boat!

    3.  Fiat Doblo.  7 seats, great to drive (no really!).  Fantasic all rounder!

When?  Probably never, but the thought is nice!

For the first time ever, I'm looking to buy a brand new car for cash. Have had company cars before and many used cars but never actually walked into a showroom as a cash paying customer. The car is for my wife and will be required to carry her and our newborn in comfort and safety, whilst also being cheap as chips - both to buy and to own, sporty if possible, 5 doors and with air con and alloys. I reckon I could pick up a small engined Mazda2 or Seat Ibiza for £7k, fingers crossed. Was previosuly thinking about a used Audi A2.

My girlfriend's taking delivery of a Mini Cooper S which I, personally, can't wait for! Was originally looking at the D but I just found the clatter a little too loud and with the rising diesel prices, the petrol 'S' started to make more sense.

Reckon we'll keep the Mini for a good 18 months or so - just love the go kart handling on those things!

For me, I really have no idea! I rather like the Focus ST...

I fancy a Fiat 500 - either a Lounge or a Sport - with either the 1.2 Petrol or the 1.3 Multijet Diesel. But I'm also going to take a long look at the New Fiesta, Ibiza SportCoupe, and anything else at the Motor Show on Thursday. But I don't think I'll be tugged away from a black Fiat 500 1.2 Sport (or Lounge) just yet...

Don't worry, he's an idiot. Nom de Plum read in another thread that my Dad has a Focus ST which I used to be a named driver on but he, for some reason, thinks I'm lying.

My point was simply that I like the Focus ST and, if I had enough money, would get one for myself. Believe it or not, my Dad and I both work and so car sharing isn't really an option.

He'll pick a fight wherever he goes, best just to ignore it.

I'm dreaming of a Z4 M Coupe at the moment, but can't quite afford it yet. New from the dealer, they are about £ 110.000,- over here.

    Never move to Norway.

A convertible? James, I was sure that you absolutely had to have an SUV for the sake of the safety of your children and for the fact that you feel it places you in a special class above others? Are you no longer a dedicated parent?

I am currently teaching my kids all about global warming so that they can clear the mess up that you are creating in that rust bucket, death trap Lancia of yours.

Currently I have a 3.0 Z4.  My next car will be a Z4M Coupe.  Always wanted an M car and I like my current Z4 so makes perfect sense.  Plus with the hike in fuel prices, tax etc I am hoping the prices will fall a reasonable amount before I buy.
