I immediately thought Jimi Hendrix. But I look at Jimmy Page now, and think that Hendrix would be even more of a pastiche of his former self than Page is.
There is a dearth of good, modern, classical composers also. I like some of the works of Philip Glass and Howard Shore (Einaudi has occasional moments also), so there could be an argument for Beethoven, Mozart, and - say - Mendelssohn.
I think, though, the Stevie Ray Vaughan's career was cut off in his prime and I really do wonder what he'd be doing today.
