  • Mexico builds a British sports car

    Jul 17, 2008 3:35 PM

This is the new Mastretta MXT, which its makers claim is the first car ever to be entirely designed and built in Mexico.
It’s claimed that the two-seater weighs just 900kg, will do 0-60mph in less than five seconds and top 150mph. This performance comes from a 240bhp, turbocharged 2.0-litre Duratec engine which is driven through a five-speed manual box.
“It is most important that our customers are delighted by the new MXT,” said Daniel Mastretta, designer of the MXT. “That’s what we aimed ...Read the full article

Does anyone actually take this lot seriously?

Look at it: there's not a single original design feature on the car!

Dunno. It's not a whole less derivative than a load of other cars on the market including the new Lotus. My only other experience of Mexican manufacturer is Fender Standard Strat and Tele guitars, and they are as good as the US ones, but two thirds of the price. £23K does seem pretty ambitious for an unknown brand though.

Looks interesting and I hope it does well but judging by the inner part of that open door in the pictures, the interior needs a lot of work. I wonder if there are too many low volume sporty vehicles coming out for the market to cope with: These guys, Keating (who I reckon might be dead and buried a la FBS Census), Farboud/Faraboud/whatever they're called now, the Breckland Beira, Aspid, etc Maybe even the new Lotus, new Noble, Tesla and KTM should be included in that list.

If its built as well as it looks and comes here for the suggested price it won't matter if its not original because its not! like the rest ofthe herd!.It certainly looks better than say the new Nissan 370Z for instance, its a bit of a medallion man car all noise and not much else.I say give the car a chance it would be good to have something from another country.

The Germans have tried and so have the russians and many other nations, why not Mexico?...
