These exclusive photographs reveal the incredible new Mercedes SL65 AMG Black Series in production form for the first time.
Just 350 examples of the remarkable 670bhp SL65 AMG super coupe will be built over a two-year period, each powered by a twin-turbocharged 6.0-litre V12 engine. Only nine right-hand drive examples will make it to the UK, each costing £270,000.

Wow, it looks mental! I wasn't a fan of the SL's facelift but it looks great in these pictures.

OMG, is there a more sinister looking piece of machinery than this? I'm off to buy the lottery tickets. Just imagine this in Black on Black wheels with the darkened windows at night. ooooo. i'm getting a semi.

I too am not a big fan of the current 'facelifted' SL, but here the Black Series looks sensational! Makes the SLR look silly and i have no doubt that this car will be miles better than its big brother if the 'standard' AMG SLs are anything to go by.

The fixed roof looks great too. Shame that that a coupe version of the regular SL isn't available alongside the convertible.

Must be a nice thing to drive, but I can't help but think that it looks a bit "fussy". Too much "Need for Speed" in it. They could have flared the arches a bit more tastefully at least. But that's just me...

Diesel for life!!! LPG / Water Injection / twin stage sequential turbos. 6 Bars of absolute heaven!!! A smidge of turbo lag to catch a quick prayer...

I think the new SL front end looks great and even more so on this version.

Look a bit too extreme in my opinion, in that the key enhancement is the fitment of some massive wheels.  What size are they?  Look like 22 inchers minimum!

    Front lights are poorly resolved.

Lacks any sort of style or class.

    Bring it!!

Looks like a badly modified kit car. Whatever happened to qualities that made MB great - that kind of restrained sense of purpose? Went the same way as MB build quality, I suppose.

You're talking out of your Auspuff.

SL65 AMG Black Series versus its direct ancestor, the AMG 450 SLC from the late '70s. It's AMG's hand-built engine and AMG Fahrwerk inside a 'standard' Mercedes-Benz SL with only the doors in common.

I'm fully aware of the late 70s AMG SLC. Unlike the Black Series, it does at least have something of the "restrained sense of purpose" that I mentioned in my original mail and, also unlike the Black Series, doesn't look like the result of an evening's work by a particularly inept bunch of Max Power readers. Thank you for your interest.
