  • Spied: Camaro SS

    Apr 12, 2008 3:26 PM

The forthcoming Chevrolet Camaro has already been causing excitement in America, but what looks like a prototype of the high-performance ‘SS’ version has crossed the Atlantic for a testing session at the Nurburgring.
The new muscle car goes on sale in the ‘States early next year but hasn’t been confirmed for sale in Europe. GM hasn’t announced any plans to engineer a right-hand drive version, but sources within GM UK say that British bosses are battling hard for us to get a version with the s...Read the full article

Why should GM send a car to the UK that will surely be ignored or labeled inferior to other Euro or Japanese competition in that segment? You will get the Holden equivalent which will allow you to purchase the same car but free of the guilt associated with purchasing anything from the colonies. In other words the Camaro is an American thing, you wouldn’t understand.

    You are an American then?

What is to understand about this car though?  It uses the same principles as the Mustang and by the looks of the spy shots improves on things (especially the handing), to create a potentially half decent muscle car.  There are plenty of people in the UK who understand that!

Actually the Mustang has a solid rear axle and retro looks, although the Camaro takes cues from the 69 model it is in no way retro and does not feature a solid rear axle. These are Yank Tanks and we in the colonies have seen how they are received in the UK so why bother? I appreciate your enthusiasm mate, but there is just not enough of your mindset to justify a right hander. Enjoy your rear drive Toyota/Subaru and Honda Civic Type R or come over here and get one, the currency exchange rate is in your favor.

To be honest the biggest problem is probably the size of the engine and the price of petrol over here. If you can afford the running costs, you can probably afford something European and more 'upmarket' (remember that often the £ price is numerically equal to the $ price by the time the car gets over here!) - though I can see the appeal, it's a great-looking car and I bet it sounds awesome to boot.

Love it. Styling cars to mimic the great cars of the American past fair better than something new.

This one looks suitably aggresive and modern while still having one foot in the past.
