  • Corsa 1.7 fine by me!

    Apr 22, 2008 4:01 PM

Review King here to talk about the Vauxall Corsa 1.7l as I feel this is all you need.

The story is that me and my dad both agree that a really big or wide car as appealing and desirable as they might be could in theory take away the fun of driving. See my dad currently owns a BMW 328d, Vauxall Corsa 1.7l and a Ford Ka. Well we were talking about Ferraris the other day and my forum post about the cars you would have if you could have. My dad seemed to come up with a list of nice cars that didn't necessarily cost a huge amount apart from the Veryon. His reasoning being that with a big car you have to mind the back end and sides for curves so you don't scratch the car. This is why he would like a Gallardo more than the other supercars that you could get. It's because it's no bigger in width or length than his Corsa is.

So that left me thinking and in the end I totally agreed. This is what I concluded. I figger that in he grand scheme of things a normal supercar or anything big for that matter is good for the track and slowly cruising around on open roads. Yet when it gets to the town they sort of come out of there element a bit like a fish out of water. For exactly the same reasons that I listed above they aren't ideal for a town. Sure you can get through the streets o.k. I mean its unlikely that you're going to get stuck but the ease of use isn't there. Back to the Corsa that I ultimately avoided mentioning throughout. The 1.7 engine is perfect very smooth and economical for those that care. At the same time however it is plenty quick enough for you to enjoy yourself. Handling is good enough for British roads. Finally the body and outer shell makes it ideal for every road be it town or open road. It won't draw a crowd like a Ferrari or Lamborghini but do you really want people peering into your car all the time.So in the end the Corsa is every bit as good as any car is at fulfilling your every day needs.

    And that's that!

But a Gallardo is bigger in both width and length?

The new corsa isnt exactly small for a small car. No small car theses days are. They are as big as the class above was 20 years ago! I love small cars, they are so much more fun to chuck about in day to day driving. I have a passat and a smart roadster, plus access to my partners Aygo. And they passat is my least favourite car, Its massive, and heavy. Sadly its the one i drive the most because of work, Its nightmare gettin into spaces in london and multi stories.

However, if i could afford to own and run a supercar like a lambo, then im sure i could afford a smaller car to run into town! best of both worlds really hehe

Julian what you say is true and i won't say it isn't but it is deceptively small as Clarkson puts it and to be honest he is spot on. I have seen one in the metal and I thought it was small for a supercar that is. Then the arguement about cars you would if you could with my dad becomes relevant as his justification behind the Gallardo taking number 1 was because its small and then the advantages on having a small car come to the fray.

You are right though it isn't as small as a Corsa. But it is small. See the Passat point above over the Smart Roadster to hammer the point home.

    And that's that!
