Our non-driving PM visits London show

Chas Hallett

Gordon Brown dropped into the motor show this morning but he had only one thing on his mind: the environment. He marched straight to the Opel Flextreme concept nodded approvingly and then disappeared off to the Act on CO2 stand to get tips on greener driving.Odd considering he doesn't actually have a driving licence - but there you go.

But a few hacks buzzing around him, myself included,  did manage to throw him a few questions - but to each he replied that he is commited to a low carbon future.

That commitment extended to his assertion the other day that we'll all be in hybrids and electrics by 2020.I asked GM boss Bob Lutz what he thought of that prediction. 'Frankly ludicrous' was his answer.

I don't believe everything that Maximum Bob says but I think I'm with him on this one rather than our increasingly car hating PM.

Struggling to see what difference it makes whether Gordo has a driving licence or not. He presumably can't fly a plane but still puts the policies in place that rule the nation's skies. In fact, there is a good argument that says not having a driving licence is a good thing - it's a rare man who manages to be dispassionate about cars and maybe we should have one of them looking at future motoring policies with a clear head rather than someone who gets all goey over the thought of a 911.

This guy is worse than Blair, and he was about as convincing as Doctor Cripins defence lawyer!

Do me a favour, he could not give a sh!t about the environment if it was not the current buzz word for all governments to jump on. For Christ sake if we leave it to him we will all be going back to the horse drawn Zeppelin.

2020!?! Well that makes it 11.4 years away and apparently we've only got 100 months (8.3 years) to save the planet, so we're all doomed!

... It's a bit like listening to the Jehovah's witnesses!

I'm also committed to a low carbon future. I've stopped eating burnt toast and will bbq fewer sausages.
