It's not unduly dramatic to say that without the MX-5 Mazda might well not have made it through the last century. And the latest version merely carries on the good work of the first two models, adding a new degree of mechanical sophistication without diluting the appeal of the original. The MX-5 remains the car that has no real rivals to speak of, which is an odd one when you think about how successful it's been for Mazda.
