Considering it shares its underpinnings with one of the best hatches ever (the Ford Focus), there is something slightly disappointing about the way the Mazda 3 drives. It's good, but it's not rulebending. Then again this car is spacious inside, well made, looks fresh in the metal and is very keenly priced. Maybe we just expected too much.
