These are the first pictures of the sleek new Renault Laguna Coupe Concept that’s due to be revealed at next week’s Frankfurt motor show next week.

Though Renault calls it a concept, expect the production car very much top follow the same elegant look, one that takes Renault firmly upmarket.

But while we expect the production coupe to look very similar to the concept from the outside, the cabin is likely to be borrowed largely wholesale from the new hatchback and estate. That’s no bad thing –the new Laguna’s interior has left us impressed, with its high-quality feel and look.

The coupe will most likely have a narrower engine line-up than the hatchback and estate. A 3.5-litre V6 petrol will top the range, but a 170bhp 2.0-litre four-pot and 2.0-litre turbodiesel are likely. There will be a choice of six-speed manual or automatic gearboxes.

The new Coupe joins the Laguna line-up in the second half of 2008.
