This is the Peugeot RC concept, which will be unveiled at the Paris motor show this October.

The four-door, four-seat coupe introduces a new design face for the range, likely to be seen first in production on the new 607 and 407, due around 2010/11.

Compared to the Peugeot 908 RC concept shown in Paris 2006, the new design looks much better resolved and proportioned.

In place of that concept’s fussy front-end with its prominent lion badge and multiple chromed vanes, the large ‘lion’ badge is framed by a tightly-proportioned shield grille, underpinned by a wide lower grille.

It’s a big improvement over today’s over-sized production grille, which dominates the face of all Peugeot models.

The shield grille of the new concept is the focal point of the front superstructure and gives rise to strong design lines that run up the bonnet, over the roof and onto the boot-deck lid to give the RC a strong visual presence.

The RC also showcases new green technology in the form of a hybrid drivetrain that is claimed to have a potential maximum power output of 313bhp and emissions of just 109g/km.

Peugeot has released no further details of the RC concept’s powertrain, but expect a full hybrid system that offers pure electric mode as well as combined petrol-electric propulsion.
