Mazda has unveiled a facelifted MX-5 at the Paris motor show.

The most noticeable update to the popular two-seat roadster is a more aggressive face, made up of freshly reshaped headlights, a deeper grille and more pronounced, black fog light surrounds.

Laurens Van den Acker, head of Mazda design, said the mild update was intended to make the car look more aggressive and assertive. "We also needed to bring the styling more in line with the current range,” he said.

The facelifted MX-5 also benefits from a new, smoother-shifting six-speed gearbox and the rev limit on the 2.0-litre engine has been raised by 500rpm.

Expect to see the updated Mazda MX-5 in showrooms early next year.
