You’ll need a bit more folding in your wallet if you want your MX-5 with a folding tin-top.
The new MX-5 Roadster Coupe will cost from £18,210 when it arrives in the UK at the end of the year, while the soft-top starts at £15,650.
The svelte tin-top MX-5, which was unveiled at the London motor show last month, comes with a metal roof that stows away behind the seats in 12 seconds at the press of a button.
The tin-top gets climate control as standard, along with an option pack, and also gets alloy wheels. Mazda says that this extra kit means the Roadster Coupe is only £1200 more than the soft-top, like for like.
The car’s lines are little altered from those of its soft-top sibling, and with only a 37kg weight increase and the retention of 50:50 weight distribution, expect that car’s nimble handling to remain. We’ll let you know as soon as we get behind the wheel.
