Honda's hydrogen-powered saloon will go on sale in 2008, and will be almost identical to the FCX concept seen first in 2006.

The true benefit of hydrogen propulsion is its range. The FCX produces 134bhp and will cover 354 miles on one tank of hydrogen, plus it can be fuelled at home and produces zero emissions.

This is all done in a car that offers as much comfort and style as any modern car in the class – it will compete in the same class as the new Mondeo and 3-series.

The production FCX will be revealed at the LA show next month, before going on sale in America and Japan in 2008, hitting UK showrooms not long after.

No prices have been announced, and considering this will be the first ever hydrogen-powered model in the UK, we wouldn't like to guess at what Honda thinks is a reasonable list price for its groundbreaking model.

The only dead-cert is that, as the first zero-emission car to provide the same levels of comfort, style and practicality as a standard modern car, it will be a popular choice.
