Ford has used its London motor show conference to confirm pricing for the new Fiesta.

The entry-level Fiesta, which features a 1.25-litre engine producing 58bhp, will cost from £8695; that will pitch Ford's baby slightly above the Vauxhall Corsa, whose most basic variants start at under £8k.

The Zetec S (sporty), Titanium (luxury) and Econetic (green) variants will all cost around £12,000. The firm is making some big claims for the £11,845 three-door Econetic (a five-door will cost £12,445); the 1.6-litre diesel model will emit just 98g/km of CO2 (less than VW's Polo Bluemotion) and should return 76mpg. Ford of Britain boss Roelant de Waard said, "The Fiesta Econetic will be the cleanest family car on sale in the UK."

The Zetec S is only available as a three-door, costing £12,595, while the Titanium, which gets 16in alloys, climate control, privacy glass, cruise control, automated headlamps and wipers, power folding mirrors and carpet mats, starts at £12,095.
