This is the Suzuki Alto, the company's new city car, which has just been unveiled at the Paris motor show.

The Suzuki Alto is powered by the 1.0-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine currently found in the Suzuki Splash, which develops 67bhp and 66lb of torque. Suzuki expects it to achieve combined fuel economy of 62.7mpg and CO2 emissions of just 103g/km.

The company wants to broaden its appeal and customer base, and the car has been designed to accord with Suzuki's Way of Life philosophy.

"We want to include more younger people, specifically women," said a Suzuki spokesperson. “We want to the car to be fun and appealing. Personalisation will be a big part of the car too.”

Eqipped with a five-speed manual gearbox as standard, the Suzuki Alto will also have a torque converter automatic gearbox available as an option. Trim levels will be simple, with only two variations available. The range-topping car will get ESP and iPod connection as standard.

The Suzuki Alto is due to go on sale in March next year priced at around £7000. The company is aiming to sell 6500 Altos in the UK in the first twelve months.
