Toyota has teamed up with the Royal College of Art’s automotive design department to establish a competition to promote innovative cars based around the new iQ.
Students and alumni of the prestigious design school will be asked to submit designs in keeping with the ‘Intelligent Urban Living’ theme of the competition. Professor Sir Christopher Frayling, Rector at the Royal College of Art said; “The Toyota partnership is a fantastic platform for our postgraduate creative community to develop radical design ideas that embody the spirit of the new iQ car.”
Toyota insiders recently confirmed to Autocar the company plans to create a range of models spun-off the iQ’s innovative mechanical architecture, including the potential for a seven-seat model no larger than the current Yaris – so it’s a fair bet that winning designs will have the opportunity to influence the shape of future models.
The winners will also be displayed in an exhibition at the Royal College of Art scheduled for the start of the new year.
