Citroen has released pictures and specifications for the revised C4. The visual makeover is a mild one, but the car is also being offered with two new petrol engine and revised HDI diesel motors.

Aesthetically it’s a case of trying to spot the difference. Headlights and front bumper design has been tweaked slightly and the three-door ‘coupe’ now comes with transparent ‘crystal effect’ rear lights. Inside the cabin material quality has been improved and the rev counter has been relocated to the central display unit. Top-spec versions get the option of a new HDD satnav and audio system.

The new petrol engines have been engineered by BMW, and are closely related to those in the Mini and sportier versions of the Peugeot 207. The naturally-aspirated 1.6-litre version combines 119bhp with 42.2 mpg, while the turbocharged 1.6-litre ‘THP’ has 149bhp and a combined fuel economy figure of 40.9mpg.

The HDI engines now come with low rolling resistance Michelin ‘Energy Saver’ tyres as standard, improving fuel economy and emissions slightly. The revised range will be priced from £12,695 for the 1.4 LX 5dr to £19,895 for the range-topping 2.0 HDI 138 Exclusive Auto 5dr – and that’s before the inevitable generous Citroen discounts get applied.
