Motorsport boss Max Mosley has won his legal action against the News of the World, which had claimed that he took part in a Nazi-style orgy with prostitutes.

Mosley, the son of 1930s Fascist leader Sir Oswald Mosley, had claimed invasion of privacy against the Sunday paper, and was demanding punitive exemplary damages. He admitted to a sadomasochistic sex session in a London flat, but denied any Nazi connotations.

High Court judge Mr Justice Eady ruled that the News of the World did breach Mosley’s privacy, and awarded him £60,000 in damages, believed to be a record figure for such a case. But he stopped short of granting him exemplary damages, which could have been a much more costly punishment for the tabloid paper.
