Hyundai is about to bring new levels of value for money to the UK market for large MPVs, with the announcement of a people-carrier that’ll offer eight seats and a large boot, for less than the price of the cheapest Ford S-Max.

The Hyundai i50M will be launched in Britain in June. Known as the H-1 Wagon in other markets, it’s 5.1-metre monocab that will double as a light commercial vehicle for Hyundai later in 2008, and is powered by a 2.5-litre turbodiesel engine with 168bhp and 289lb ft of torque.

The car will be offered in various levels of specification, with the cheapest likely to cost less that £17,000. A top-of-the-range version, equipped with leather upholstery, sat nav, parking sensors, rear-cabin DVD screens and multi-zone air-conditioning, will weigh in under £20k.
