Anyone looking to spend £220,000 pounds on a car in which to go around in very fast circles need this week look no further than Stuttgart. This – quite possibly the quickest and most purposeful-looking Porsche 911 ever to be offered as a customer racing car – is the new GT3 Cup S.

It’s designed to comply with FIA GT3 regulations, and based on the 911 GT3 RS. Porsche buffs will know that the 997 GT3 Cup takes its body from the more ordinary 911 GT3. The new Cup S, then, has wider wheelarches than the Cup and room for wider wheels and tyres.

And its advantages don’t end there. The 3.6-litre flat six in the back of it is almost identical to Porsche’s racing engine from the Mobil1 Supercup. Thanks to some ECU and exhaust changes, it produces 434bhp, while a standard Cup makes do with 420bhp.

The Cup S also has a larger and more effective aero kit than the Cup which, combined with its wider tyres, should give it significantly better high-speed cornering potential. It borrows several lightweight chassis components from the GT2-class 911 GT3 RSR.

Watch out for them at Le Mans in June – probably somewhere near the head of the GT3 class, if pedigree is anything to go by.
