Online insurer, swiftcover.com, has found that 69 per cent of UK buyers would opt for a British brand if given £100,000 to spend on a new car.

Aston Martin topped the survey, with 24 per cent of the votes, followed by Range Rover with 19 per cent, Bentley with 16 per cent and Rolls Royce with 10 per cent.

The remaining rivals were Porsche and Ferrari, both with nine per cent, BMW with six per cent, Mercedes with four per cent, Maserati with two per cent and Lamborghini with just one per cent.

The survey covered 832 people, and was carried out to promote a competition run by the site offering £100,000 as the prize.

Swiftcover.com is probably delighted that most buyers want Aston Martins, being as its one of the few brands in their survey that actually offer a new car for less than £100k.

Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Bentley are all out of reach by at least £17,500, but Rolls-Royce is the most optimistic addition to the '£100k dream car' survey.

We assume the winner will stump up the extra £120,000 they'll need for the cheapest new Rolls-Royce available.
