Verdict

Viewed objectively, the new Passat is a substantial and logical improvement over its predecessor. It offers more space, far better driving dynamics and lots of technology. Purchasing one would be a decision we can't imagine you'd regret; it should hold its value and never let you down. But it doesn't have the old car's quality and it's a soulless device. It's just not up there with the 3-series.
