Road Test

Mitsubishi Evo VIII 260

Test Date 13 April 2004  Price When New £23,999

Verdict

 8 stars out of 10

If you’ve always wanted that hallowed Evo badge, the 260 provides a bargain entry, some £4000 cheaper than the MR FQ-300 and £9000 under the range-topping MR FQ-340. While there’s no doubt that it’s slower, in the real world it would take a very handy driver to exploit the differences between the two. Perhaps the Evo 260’s greatest appeal is its usability, which will open it up to a new breed of buyer previously put off by the VIII’s outrageous boy-racer looks and no-compromise driving experience.
