Road Test

Seat Altea 1.6 Stylance

Test date 24 August 2004  Price as tested £13,945

The Altea can trace its roots back to the attractive Salsa concept car from the 2000 Geneva show. This pioneering coupé-MPV crossover quickly disappeared from the public eye, despite being originally mooted for production. The Salsa gives a strong indication of how the next Leon will look. Further Altea inspiration is derived from the Tango concept seen at the Frankfurt show in 2001 — another design study that failed to reach showrooms. The Altea concept itself first appeared at Frankfurt in 2003 and little has changed since then.
