Road Test
Honda Accord Saloon 2.2 i-CDTi Executive
Test date 18 November 2003
Price as tested £20,600
The Accord was only the second car that Honda sold in the UK. Launched in 1976 in three-door hatchback form, it had a 1.6-litre engine and front-wheel drive. Honda facelifted it in 1982, improving aerodynamics and offering a four-door saloon. The ’86 Aerodeck followed, majoring on lifestyle appeal but adding a zesty 2.0-litre engine producing 0-60mph in 10.7sec. In 1993, an all-new car, sharing underpinnings with Rover’s 600, took on the mighty Mondeo. It was revised in 1996, and in ’98 the Type-R high-performer, which could crack 140mph, was added.
