With a V10 engine, the Viper appears to have the mechanical credentials to woo those after Ferrari 512TR performance for far less than half the price. A mildly modified truck engine recast in aluminium, the block has 7997cc, 400bhp at 4600rpm and 450lb ft of torque at 3600rpm.
Extensive use of advanced composites and the deletion of windows, door handles and all bar the most basic items of equipment has kept weight down to just 1522kg. That means 263bhp for each tonne of Viper, giving a power-to-weight ratio similar to that of a Fiesta with a Porsche 911 engine. Power is transferred rearward through Michelin XGT2 tyres of monstrous 335/35 ZR 17 proportions.
